AXA SME Masterclass - Day 4

Date published: 21st May 2008

There were even fewer of us at breakfast today. All the late night conversations were beginning to catch up with everyone.

There was another game in the morning – which was difficult. The task was to manufacture paper chairs, against a set of different criteria. The team I was in, worked hard to be cohesive. Everyone took on a role they would not normally do and would mentor anyone doing the task they were most experienced in. This was the first time that I have seen how an exceptional financial controller and managing director worked.

One of the reasons that I wanted to attend the course was to learn how to be a better boss. This is something that is very hard to teach yourself. Over the years I have developed a style, which has been based just upon my own opinion and adapted along the way.  To see how very good people do this job was a huge lesson for me, and one I will never forget.

It was sad when the course finished and everyone went home after lunch. It is always strange when you have spent an intense few days with people that were previously strangers. You feel at the end of the experience that you have a bond. I am usually not very good at keeping in contact, but this time I will make the effort.
