AXA SME Masterclass - Day 3
Date published: 20th May 2008
Most of today was spent playing a game that was similar to The Apprentice. There were 10 of us in each team. We had to nominate a project manager and then were given a series of tasks to complete in a short period of time. All of us are used to leading our own businesses, and being the boss. There were a lot of people talking over each other and not listening. In the end I decided not to pay attention to anyone else and did my own thing.
The rest of the day was spent reflecting on what we had learnt, which was about understanding objectives and tasks. The game demonstrated how we can easily get distracted with tasks and lose focus on what our objectives are. I doubt I would have understood so much, so quickly if this had been a classroom lesson
It was a brilliant game and I will do something similar with my team when I get back to the office.
The photographer from The Mail On Sunday came whilst we were having our lunch. It was a good excuse to stay out chatting on the patio, in the sunshine. I am looking forward to seeing the photos, especially the group shot.
Dinner was a spectacular rabbit in red wine.
We were challenged after dinner to a karaoke competition by a group of French business people who were also at the conference centre. Unfortunately someone hid the microphone, so that came to a quick end.
