What you want is what you get

"Wow - when can we get one of those? It looks so much easier to use."

That's what Alex Harris, website editor at Colchester Borough Council, said when she first saw our new WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.

WYSIWYG is a new, and much easier, way of creating and updating web pages. Like Ronseal, it really does do what it says on the 'tin'. When you use the new editor to create a web page, what you see on screen is what visitors to your web site will see once the page has been published.
With this new and simple tool, updating and changing the contents of your web site couldn't be easier. Indeed, WYSIWYG works just like Microsoft Word. You can copy text or a table from Word and paste them onto your page. You also have word-processor-style tools like find/replace and a spell checker, and an image library is available to help you make your pages look good.

The editor also makes it much easier for you to create numbered and bulleted lists, position images on the page and create tables. These tasks can now be completed in much the same way as with a word processor.

Amongst the first companies to get the editor as 'standard' on their web sites are Enabler and Colchester Borough Council.

Enabler, an international retail IT and business services company with customers in Portugal, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, USA, Hong Kong and Brazil, used the e-KIS Content Management System with the WYSIWYG editor to build and launch their new multilingual site in September. People from a number of countries helped create the pages, each working in their native language.

Colchester Borough Council, which has been using the e-KIS Content Management System for on its website for almost three years, will soon be upgrading to use the new editor. Alex Harris said "We are really looking forward to using the new e-KIS WYSIWYG editor. It looks really easy to use. People are familiar with applications like Word, so it should take no time at all for them to start creating their pages. And by making it so easy to create and edit pages, there will be fewer opportunities for mistakes.

Alex is also pleased we've designed the editor to automatically produce web pages that comply fully with current accessibility standards. "It's important that our web sites are accessible to all," he said. "The new WYSIWYG editor will make this really easy."
