A Recipe for Smart success

Date published: 15th April 2003

A Recipe For Success is one of a handful of Suffolk based companies to have won backing from the Department of Trade and Industry's Small Business Service (SBS) with a Smart award. Smart is a Small Business Service (SBS) scheme that has been running in this region for 15 years.

All will receive a substantial financial boost from the government for their innovative approach to solving practical problems. This award, presented by Mrs Hazel Hole, MBE Deputy Regional Director of the Small Business Service in the East of England, is a culmination of success for Ipswich based A Recipe For Success, who feel that their balanced approach to e-business gave them the edge to win their second Smart award in two years.

A Recipe For Success used their first award help them research and develop software to simplify interactive websites. The software is designed to make interactive and transactional websites more accessible to the UK's small and medium sized enterprises, corporations and local government organisations. Their current software, known as e-KIS (e-Business Keep It Simple), has brought them much success, with dozens of users ranging from small businesses such as Eloise Lingerie in Bury St Edmunds to large local government organisations such as City of Lincoln Council.

A Recipe For Success' second Smart award for £111,000 will give them the ability to create versions of e-KISTM specifically for use within third-party resellers channels such as marketing and design companies and management consultancies as part of their continuing research and development programme.

Jeff Hume, Director at A Recipe For Success, credits the Small Business Service with really helping their business grow & prosper over the past two years.
He said, "Without the Smart awards, it is doubtful that as a small but growing company, we would have been able to invest as much time and money as we have into research and development. The Small Business Service has helped companies such as ours to really flourish and develop in what is such a competitive market."

He added, "Our recent exhibition to the MIPTV/Milia events in Cannes has convinced us that not only is there a UK market for e-KIS, but that there are also huge opportunities outside the UK as well".
