Move house with a mouse!
Date published: 17th June 2002
Are you an Ipswich Borough Council tenant thinking of exchanging house? Well, now you can move from A to B as easy as IBC with the help of a PC and the good news is, you don't need to own a computer to use the service.
The innovative Ipswich Borough Homes Exchanges web pages designed and built by ARFS, went live this month opening up a whole new world to all tenants who would like to exchange houses with other IBH tenants within Ipswich.
Each area housing office has a PC for tenants to use so they can get on line and surf the 250 properties currently up for exchange. There is detailed information about each property, a photo of it and a link map to show the exact location.
The application form is on line, too, so you can get the whole thing moving at the click of a mouse button. Tenants can also use their e-mail addresses to contact each other, cutting out some of the waiting time associated with the traditional method house exchange.
With the launch of this service, thought to be one of the most innovative systems of house exchange in the country, it is anticipated that the number of properties available will increase. It is hoped this will give tenants a wider choice and lead to fewer homes standing empty at considerable cost to the Council. The money saved can then be used in the repair of Council homes.
Alison Ward of Ipswich Borough Homes and Jeff Hume of Ipswich based hi-tech company, A Recipe for Success, spoke at the Institute of Housing Conference on the production of the web site. Considerable interest has been shown in by other housing organisations, particularly in the new exchange facility.
Thinking of exchanging? All you need is a mouse in one hand and a cup of tea in the other.
