A hi-tech partnership between Ipswich Borough Council and local e-commerce firm A Recipe For Success has been shortlisted for a national e-excellence award.
Ip-city.com, Invest Ipswich.com and the recently launched Ipswich Borough Homes websiteall developed by A Recipe For Success - comprised the Council's entry in the design category of the Computer Weekly E-Business Excellence Awards.
James Hehir, chief executive of Ipswich Borough Council, speaking at the opening of the annual national SOLACE conference in Ipswich today, will herald the success as an example of the need for public-private partnership to achieve the government's e-revolution ambitions.
A founder member of the IP-City concept, the Council turned to the private sector to help establish IP-City as a recognised centre of innovation excellence. The awards entry highlighted the key role of the websites in bringing the IP-City community together and taking the idea to the global hi-tech community.
"IP-City.com and InvestIpswich.com have been an integral part of the initiative from day one, acting as both the glue for the ground-breaking local public-private partnership as well as its key communication vehicle," it said.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Borough Homes website - the latest in the series - has improved communication with housing tenants while simplifying internal working procedures. It carries several innovative features such as a translation service for ethnic minorities and flexible font size to assist elderly tenants who may have poor eyesight.
The judges are looking for entries that can prove they deliver real business benefits from e-business solutions. The design award will be given to the initiative that makes best use of e-business technologies to deliver a content design that is attractive, user-friendly, easily navigable and efficiently tied in to the back office.
The other shortlisted companies for the e-business design award are Markel Syndicate 702 at Lloyds, Nettec plc and Intelligent Finance. The awards ceremony in London on 27 November will form the centrepiece of the E-Business Expo - the UK's largest gathering of industry vendors and users - at Earl's Court.
