Dales Holiday Cottages was established in 1982 and has grown its portfolio to over 700 cottages, available to rent from Cumbria up and through Scotland.
The Requirement
Dales asked if we could put their booking service on-line and develop a website that would help them cut costs and improve customer service.
The Solution
We launched the first Dales Holiday Cottages website in 1999, which was upgraded in 2000 following feedback from existing customers. Visitors can find comprehensive details about Dales’ cottages, from number of rooms, weekly rates, and availability through to local attractions and any special offers. They can follow the process through to booking and pay with a choice of payment methods.
Throughout the website, users are constantly encouraged to register on the email list so that they can receive news of updates and special offers. Dale Holiday Cottages now emails registered customers with regular monthly newsletters, tailored to their holiday history, as well as special adaptations for overseas visitors to provide more general UK tourist information.
During the foot and mouth crisis, the number of bookings made through the website actually increased. This was a huge achievement for a UK company relying on tourism at that time, not to mention one located in one of the worst hit areas of Britain. Dales believes the investment they have made in their website and marketing strategy helped cushion the effects of the disaster that devastated so many others in the tourist industry.
