When people need to contact their local council, police station or health centre, they want fast and easy access to information. It was with this in mind that One Ipswich came about - to offer a 'one stop shop' to the residents of the town to find out what they need to know online, and as quickly and efficiently as possible. The partners collaborating in the scheme include Suffolk Police, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, and the local NHS.
What they required
One Ipswich wanted a clear, central information point for anyone living in Ipswich. Because of the nature and diversity of the town's population, it had to attract as many people of as many ages as possible, by being vibrant to look at, and easy to use. As this was a website created by local people for local people, we saw it essential to carry out a large-scale consultation before building the site. This involved representatives from A Recipe for Success meeting with individuals and groups that would be using the site, to make sure we got the tone and style of the site just right.
Our solution
Not only did we design and build the website, we also ensured it had a facility to let users contribute their own material to the site, made possible by our e-KIS Content Management System that gives suitable log-in access to all parts of the site. Furthermore, understanding that it required a lot of publicity to be a success, we carried out an extensive marketing campaign for the client, to let all of Ipswich know what the site had to offer. This included gaining local TV coverage, and securing display advertising, such as on local buses. We also produced other promotional material including posters, flyers, bookmarks and novelty toys - to attract people of all ages to make their contribution.

From the outset, we understood that the look and feel of this website would be an important aspect in getting people to visit and add to it. Our Content Management System now ensures that anyone can make a contribution to the site with their news and views, and thanks to a clickable map, site visitors are taken straight to the area they want information on, to save them time and make navigation around the site as intuitive as possible. This was also the largest advertising campaign we've undertaken for a client; something that has certainly had an impact on visitor numbers.
